When 9/11 happened and the war in Afghanistan was building up, my rap turned from light-hearted to angry and political. I wanted to stop the war, to build a revolution.
When I needed something to handle the stress, I discovered the power of yoga, meditation, breathing, and The Art of Living. From then on my raps have taken a new flavor. My words became poems, sometimes prayers, possibly blessings… aiming for an evolution, not a revolution…
My raps are deeply spiritual, look within and remembering our inherent nature of love, peace and joy. I rap to express gratitude, promote nonviolence, and celebrate the beauty in all beings.
Lyrics
Sometimes my words are tongue twisters you might expect from a modern hiphop mystic:
“My beats bang prana. I play gongs in Ghana. Rock rhymes on top the Rockies in my pajamas. Ride the Andes on a llama while I’m rapping ancient mantras. Plant seeds of knowledge, givin’ thanks to Panchamama!”
Other times, my lyrics are blessings and prayers:
“May my voice be a channel of the infinite love, so my words fly out like a liberated dove. May I speak in such a way hearts open, spirits fly, egos melt, tears never dry, and heaven finds a friend, pen pal to angels. We’re rained on with grace, and God, I’m so grateful”
I give great thanks to all my mentors and teachers, especially Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, for his profound love, practical wisdom and enormous vision for a “One World Family” that has inspired so many of my songs.
The album and team
"Breathe Between the Lines"
The album stretches from nonviolence and social justice, to mystic visions in meditation, to gratitude for life’s gifts and challenges, and of course, our very breath…
I couldn’t be more grateful and excited about the team behind the album.
- Srikala, one of my all-time favorite rap producers will be creating soulful, mystical beats for the whole album.
- Charlie Snyder, a killer songwriter has written 5 gripping choruses and hooks.
- Incredible guest rappers, singers, and musicians including live violin, flute and guitar.
- And YOU! Thanks so much to all my friends, family, mentors, and fans.
I hope you enjoy.
Performances
PICTURED: B-Still @ ARISE Fest with DJ Believer & Lileana Fangz
I have performed for over 10,000 people at a World Peace Conference in 2011 and for 1.2 Million people representing Hip-Hop and the USA at the Art of Living World Culture Festival in 2016. I have also played for thousands at spiritual retreats and “Yoga Raves” around the US and been a guest performer at the Bonnaroo and Arise Music Festivals.
Workshops
I also offer workshops combining creativity and meditation.
In 2015, I spent 5 months in India, where I created a workshop called “D.E.P.T.H. – Discover Emotional Power Through Hip-Hop” teaching kids and adults to unlock their emotional strengths and wisdom … and got to share the program with over 1,000 people.
Now, I want to lead workshops and concerts here at home, combining rap with motivational speaking and meditation to inspire people, especially students, to use their creative energy in a positive direction.
